Are you kidding me right now!??! Let's start building our spreadsheets on these learners of ours and watch them take off! We will hold our data meetings the week of September 23. I will most likely google invite K-6 ELA teachers, ESS teachers and a few others to your scheduled time. If that time doesn't work for you, feel free to let me know. We'll do the shuffle and make it work!
Middle Window Closed
It's hot and muggy again. Fweew! Thank you SO much for making the best of this September heat and keeping your sweaty learners engaged. I have been told that, in some of your classrooms, the middle window is meant as an emergency escape and therefore has no screen. This window opens like a door to the outside. This was brought to my attention last week when an uninvited guest wandered just a little too close for comfort to our playground. We call for the Ottawa County Sheriff's support and all was handled well. I was told, however, to check your room for the emergency escape window and please keep that one closed. It's for your safety and that of our children. One of these days we'll need to remind ourselves of this heat when we're beefing about the icy cold!
Sporting Events at Rose Park
Locking down at 3:30. TAKE YOUR KEYS, PLEASE! It's been happening mostly smoothly so far. By 3:30, we're locking up most of Rose Park in order to securely welcome vball families and friends. Thanks for taking up the habit of keeping your keys on your person as you travel out and about in our darkened, after-hours hallways ;)
Mexico's Independence Day
It's a fiesta! You are invited to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day (bear in mind we are a firework-free establishment) on Monday, September 16 from 8:45-9:15 in the little gym. Our three Spanish Immersion classes have prepared a celebration that is bigger and better than ever. What a wonderful way to kick off a new week of school together! Thank you to their teachers and students for pulling this off!
Swimming Dates
Mark your calendars! We have our swimming schedule from the pool. We have more Rose Park students and therefore needed to add an additional time slot this year. What a great "challenge" to solve. Ooph! If you can't read my chicken scratching, I'll type this out electronically next week. Looks like I could use a refresher course in zaner bloser (I'm missing the elementary teacher beautiful handwriting gene!)
Grandparents Day Details
We are putting together the songs and brief speaking parts for our Grandparents Day celebration. Those details will come out soon! For now, when you think about your classroom activities I have two considerations for you. Our iPads and laptops can function as a way to simply play games but they can also be used to publish research, reports, stories and more from our learners. I encourage you to ask your students to showcase high order thinking utilizing our technology with Grandpa and Grandma. Perhaps even allow them to email a story or drawing home to Grandma and Grandpa. What a special (and impressive) digital memory from the morning. Don't forget to ask them to take a picture together and email that home (hopefully Grandma and Grandpa remember their email address!) 😂 As Grandparents will be coming and going it may be simplest to ask students to pack a folder with self-directed activities for the hour open house timeframe. If they have visitors or are working independently, they'll stay active and engaged. I'm likely suggesting what you already know!
Grandparents Day Assignment
If you would like to invite your students to participate, would you please give them the writing prompt "My Grandpa and Grandma Are Special". However they interperate the prompt, let's let the express their ideas. You may feel free to peruse through their essays or simply put them in my box. Even if you only have one participate. I think we'll invite a few to read their thoughts on paper during our Grandparents Day celebration.
Rose Park Ranch
Have the rumors reached you yet? Are you available over the lunch time on Wednesday, September 18? Nothing formal but I can get you up to speed on our Ranch dream that is starting to take shape already. There is a task for your learners should you choose to accept. If you are unable to attend this impromptu meeting in the staff center, catch me. I'll let you in on the fun in advance. 🐐
October Parent Teacher Conferences
We will have parent teacher conferences on Monday, 10/21, and Tuesday, 10/22 4:00-8:00 with a half day on Wednesday this year.
