Bring on the 5-Day Weeks!

Well, friends, the gentle induction period is behind us. It's 5-day weeks for a while now! We got this!

MAP
We're entering our fall assessment window. NWEA MAP testing and Delta math testing window opens Monday, September 9 - Friday, September 20. Please don't hesitate to seek support by scheduling in advance with Thea or Lyle. I will try to answer questions you may have as well.

Behavior Site
Thank you for all of your work in updating our accountability and communication tool, Dave. Let's all keep this site close at hand particularly at recess and/or encore. It's probably going to feel clunky at first, but the more we use this the more adept we will be. With a building and staff our size, this tool makes the accountability process so efficient and effective! Just for your reference, our behavior rubric is also available here. For consistency purposes, it seems to me that "intervention" for 15 seconds means the adult pulls the child aside, talks through the action in question, child takes responsibility and, with adult support, offers an apology to the other party involved. At this point we don't have "formal" language PK-6th grade.

Conferring with Confidence
A big thank you to Jana for preparing our bite size lesson we can take right back to our workshop lessons. Just by way of reminder, her pointers for increasing your confidence in conferencing with readers were:

  • Organize your conferences in a three-ring binder. Don't hesitate to ask Jana if you can take a peek at her binder again. She is eager and willing to share!
  • Collect and analyze data. If this is new, start with doable data. Running records offer an excellent glimpse at your reader. These go in our conferring notebooks. The engagement inventory is an excellent tool to gain understanding of each reader through data point. The reading interest inventory also helps provide insight on your reader.
  • Plan Your Course Of Action. It's difficult to confer once a week with every reader if you don't have a schedule or road map. This is a challenge for me as well. If lists are created and plans laid out, every child stands a better chance of being heard and conferred with by Teacher.

If you would like another Table for Summarizing Analysis of Data, please ask Jana or me. We'll be happy to walk you through this tool again. I'm eager to support each of you in areas of growth.

Grandparents Day
We have some plans firming up. Our Grandparents day will be held for PK-6 Will be held on October 3 in the morning. This would be good to mention in our classroom blogs as well. Our copy/paste section below has a potential announcement if you'd like to add this to your blog. Here is our proposed scheduled after meeting with Stacey:

9:00-9:15 morning recess K-6
9:15-9:30 bathroom, settle in, organize, get to gym
9:30-10:00 program in the gym
10:00-10:15 children dismiss first. Grandparents grab snacks
10:15-11:15 open house style visiting throughout building
11:15 Grandparents Day ends. School day commences.

P/T Conferences
Let's think backwards on the week of CEA. Thursday and Friday we are at convention. Wednesday is a 1/2 day. No one wants to come for conferences on Wednesday evening, particularly as that is a half day. This is full and brutal but we will CHANGE our parent/teacher conferences to Monday and Tuesday, October 21 and 22, from 4:00-8:00 so that we have the afternoon and evening free on Wednesday. It may be wise to mention this in your blogs as well. See below.

Grandparents Day
Our Rose Park community would like to celebrate ALL of our children and ALL of our families/friends, preschool through sixth grade. We would like to invite our preschool grandparents/friends to celebrate and participate with our entire Rose Park community this upcoming Grandparents/friends Day. This is a new format for us and we're excited about the program with children, preschool through sixth grade worshipping and singing together. Your child's grandparents/friends are invited to our program on October 3 for the program in the gym at 9:30. Following the program, children will host their grandparents/friends in classrooms in an open house format from 10:15-11:15. During this time, children will be prepared to lead their grandparent/friend through activities for as long as they are able to stay. We hope this format accommodates both grandparents who have multiple children to visit by popping in for a bit as well as grandparents/friends who have one child to visit with. More details will be forthcoming as the date approaches.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Date Update
Parent/teacher conferences will be held from 4:00-8:00 on October 21 and 22. Sign up notification will be forthcoming. October 23 is a half-day of school. We will NOT hold parent/teacher conferences on the 23rd.
