A New Team Member

Welcome Sarah Sluis!
Sarah Sluis has joined our team at Rose Park! You may have noticed a smiling face in our classrooms and hallways each afternoon and evening. She is the afternoon partner for Nona! Welcome to Rose Park, Sarah! We're SO grateful to have you join our Rose Park family. If you see her in the hallway, please thank her for the hard work she is already jumping into! Rose Park is simply a BEAUTIFUL facility!

Code DCC
If you were in the building on Friday afternoon, you were summoned to the staff center with a pretty serious sounding "code DCC". Did that cause you to run through all of the trainings and educational acronyms and still come up empty? A little panicked? 😅 It was meant to make you smile when coming to the staff center and finding a fresh supply of soda and treats. We'll do this from time to time when we need just a little boost to make it through the week. Code DCC means there is a fresh supply of Diet Coke (and several other choices) and chocolate as a way of thanking you for your dedicated efforts and consistency making Rose Park an exceptional place for children to grow every day! If you missed the treats, there are more in the staff center for Monday morning! Thank you ALL for all you do!

Rose Park Ranch
For those who were able to attend the casual informational meeting on Wednesday at noon, you heard the "why" and "what" behind the vision for our "ranch" future at Rose Park. At this point, the implications for classroom teachers is to allow students to participate in the process if you so choose. We are zoned at Rose Park in such a way that farm animals are not allowed on the property. However! As citizens of Holland Township, we have the right to propose an amendment to our ordinance. For our students, this will look like a "persuasive paper". If you would like to have your students participate in this process, you can encourage them to research or lead a whole group research time (as minimally or extensively as you see fit based on curricular goals and time allocation in your scope and sequence) so children gain an understanding and begin to build concrete reasons why having goats on campus would be beneficial to Rose Park. I don't have a "due date" for these papers yet but will get that timing information to you soon. See me, please, with the questions or ideas you have.

Walk-A-Thon
Here are our bussing details for Wednesday afternoon. My cell is 616-510-1593 if you need any support or help in the process of moving a whole school across town 😉 We'll have to count heads at every transition point. It's such a fun event and I'm always blown away by the support of our community. I'm also always grateful to see every little face coming off the bus and back "home".

Grandparents Day
Thank you, Stace, for all of the time and thought you have put into creating this amazing looking Grandparents Day celebration. What a BLESSING this is going to be for our Grandparents/friends! Here is the program for all of us to become familiar with.  We will need to park at Peace Lutheran Church on October 3 so leave room for our elder friends. We may need to tip them off to park there as well as an overflow option (although I'm finding folks on the north end have redefined the term "punctual"....9:00 on this side of the bridge is translated into 8:15! 😂😛) Our program will begin in the gym for all Preschool-6th grade at 9:30. The program will be done around 10:00. The children will be dismissed to their classrooms and prepare for the "open house" style visits. From 10:15-11:15 we'll hold the busy open house visits. At 11:15 we're back to regular programming. Those classes who have encore at that time will be able to report to their class, which will be shortened a smidge to accommodate for the timing. Older students who do not have encore, could I ask for student help to break down the gym? This will be an overwhelming task for one Nona, even though she's BEYOND amazing! As you know, many hands make light work. Perla's class will be holding a Grandparents Day in the small gym the next morning so lots of help packing up the big gym from our older students will be mightily appreciated! THANK YOU! I'm so excited for this program!

Encore P/T Conferences
Parents/teacher conference sign ups will be coming soon. Encore teachers, please plan to pick the date you will be available and block the other. If you need help, please ask a neighbor or me. You won't want to forget this and be stuck with a strange smattering of visits! Teachers, do we eat together at Rose Park or charge on through? I have found taking a break together brings out some slap happy laughter and bonding as we're supporting each other through ALL of these conversations which requires us to be "spot on" all night long! However, if the practice is to charge on through, we'll go with that. We'll work those details out this week.
