January: Buh Bye

Metal Key Entries Blocked

Hoekstra Electric will be setting up our final key card access points on Feb. 13th & 14th. Over our winter break, please plan to enter our building ONLY using key cards. Metal keys will soon be things we tell our grandchildren about from the good ole days along with record players....phone booths....walking uphill both ways....milking goats for school lunches... 😂

Black History Month

For reporting to our school board, would you please jot in what learning experiences you plan to lead your students through in this next month?

February 14 PD Day

  • Preschool teachers: I will confirm this but my understanding is preschool teachers will get to unpack the training and do some cross pollinating of ideas together on the 14th. We'll learn more about timing and location soon.

  • K-5 core and encore teachers: It's a surprise! The only thing I can promise is that you'll learn a TON and we'll have a blast! Please be at the front entrance of Rose Park with something to record notes and questions in by 8:25. This is a required day for teaching faculty only. If you are an employee who is compensated hourly we, unfortunately, don't have the additional budgetary allowance to pay you for this day of learning on the 14th but anyone/everyone is certainly welcome to join. If you are hourly and would like to join in the learning (I can divulge the secret to help you make a determination but you have to promise not to tell anyone the details of the plan) please let me know so we can be sure to accommodate.

  • 6th grade teachers: Tom has yet to confirm this but the middle school and high school staff will be laying out plans and details for next year. We'll miss the daylights out of you but your time is best served with your middle school colleagues.

Look! A Book!

Do you have any picture books for children on your shelves at home that are waiting to be enjoyed once again by eager readers? Any books that your family has outgrown over the years? Certainly many books grow to become family treasures to be saved for the next generation. However, our kindergarteners are wondering if you have any books on your shelves at home that you might not mind contributing to their brand new, community-oriented reading program called "Look! A Book!" On the last week of school, all kindergarteners from Holland Christian will board buses together and travel throughout our city hiding books carefully tucked into zip lock gallon bags throughout our city parks and play areas. A congratulatory note will be tucked in the bag celebrating the new book with the finder with instructions to read and enjoy the book. The eager new readers next step will be to hide the bagged book, once enjoyed, in a new location for the next reader. The note will be signed off with a salutation: "Happy Reading, HC Kindergarten Readers". If you can find a book or two to contribute, please send the books to our kindergarten classes. Rest assured, they will be put to good use, we hope, by many families in Holland over the summer months.
